minfilia warde

history

1.0

minfilia warde is a major story npc in popular mmorpg final fantasy 14.

before the major rework that arr brought, minfilia was born as ascilia and initially raised by her father - a garlean spy working for the ala mhigan resistance. however, he was killed in a parade by a beast that broke free of its chains while minfilia was rescued from the same beast by none other than thancred waters. shortly thereafter, she was adopted by f'lhaminn, a miqo'te singer.

minfilia worked in the mines at some point, and on her 17th birthday she witnessed a vision - something that would later be known as the echo. thancred brought her to one of the most influential characters in the game, louisoix leveilleur, who guided her in her newfound powers and inspired her to start her own organization called the path to help the eorzean realm at large.

with the seventh umbral calamity, an event that ushered in the arr era of final fantasy 14, and subsequently louisoix's sacrifice, minfilia was left with the remnants of the path and of louisoix's organization, the circle of knowing. she merged them to create a new organization called the scions of the seventh dawn.

a realm reborn

by the time the adventurer, or the player, is introduced, minfilia has worked hard to establish ties in all the major city-states of eorzea with each of their respective leaders. one (or two, in yda and papalymo's cases) of the four scion reepresentatives - thancred waters, y'shtola rhul, yda hext, and papalymo totolymo - makes contact with the adventurer (usually) after they encounter one of the antagonists of the game, an ascian.

shortly thereafter, the adventurer is invited to join the scions of the seventh dawn, where minfilia welcomes them and begins working alongside to better the realm as a whole. however, after the adventurer defeats titan in combat, minfilia and the others are brutally ambushed by the livia sas junius, a highly-ranked soldier of the garlean empire.

though she survives, many of the scions do not. she's taken hostage, where the adventurer must inflitrate a garlean base to rescue her.

stormblood

she isn't featured at all throughout this specific expansion due to her circumstances. neither is hydaelyn, interestingly enough.

shadowbringer

minfilia is featured in this expansion, and her legacy is explored through the eyes of her "chosen". before she was named ryne, she was called minfilia after the woman who singlehandedly stopped the flood of light. however, she's burdened with the knowledge that she is carrying the monumental expectation of saving the world, a burden no child should've ever shouldered.

how should we question the fact that minfilia chose young girls to carry out her mission of preserving and saving the first? often these children were taken away from their families to fulfill a duty of fighting against the sin-eaters at the cost of their own lives. i dunno, it's something i'm still grappling with.

endwalker

she's featured in a cameo during the final dungeon. nearly brought me to tears when i saw her, not gonna lie.
